This morning we killed some woodchucks, which would eat all the leafy things that are growing right now, if they could. This is done with a backpack full of bombs & some shovels, so us nice women pacifist farmers pretty much look like a bunch of crazy people while we do this.
One person cuts a hole in the bomb, sticks the fuse in, and lights it. Then you shove it (fuse sizzling) in the woodchuck's hole/home/sacred abode & cover it with rocks, really fast, then shovel some dirt over it. It explodes. Wahoo!
I had a lot of objections to this violent practice a few weeks ago, when I first heard that it was going to be something we do on a regular basis. But of all the options, it's really the most humane, believe it or not. And for now, the plants (and our livelihood) take priority. How's that for some utilitarian ethics?
Also, here's an update on the Nadias! Planted 4/2, as you see. Will soon be eggplants.

The first time I read "Manifesto: Mad Farmer's Liberation Front," the expectation I had in mind was exactly like this blog post. I can't even decide which sentence is my favorite. Probably "This is done with a backpack full of bombs & some shovels."
that's incredible. you should post a recording of you doing this in action. or would that be exploitative?
I'M GROWING LIKE A WEED!!!
you effing "IED"'d them!
it's really just a smoke bomb, which they inhale & then drift peacefully away. no worries. :)
