more on the WH garden/farm

First, a fun video on the history of White House residents growing their own food. This was from an 8-person chat session the New York Times held on the subject of the Obama's new garden, with each person submitting their comments, especially historical tidbits about which vegetables the different presidents have hated (I guess those are the fun parts).
(And who knew it was O Magazine that first announced Michelle Obama's farm-garden news?)
Then, a summary piece, also from the Times, on food activists. Apparently Michael Pollan thinks the movement doesn't yet have much "political savvy." But Grist writer Tom Philpott (a super-farmer in North Carolina) thinks that Michelle Obama's influence is what will change White House eating, and maybe our national food policy.
And this guy thinks Michelle is growing weed, like she needs a little cash crop to keep buying those cute outfits.
Last, something on the booming trend of backyard gardens among regular folks in the US, as a result of the recession. And there are even some guys in my neighborhood who will build and plant raised beds for you, if you don't know how.
