A couple years ago when I was living in DC, I went to a lunch that was part of a book tour; Anna Lappe was promoting the cookbook/food manifesto she co-wrote with African American chef Bryant Terry.
Terry was in Boston recently pitching his new project, Vegan Soul Kitchen, and came through one of Boston's great institutions, Haley House - low-income housing/soup kitchen/cooking school/urban farm/caterer/bakery/Catholic Worker-ish place. Terry's thing seems to be showing his community new ways to cook, using local and sustainable food for healthy and tasty meals. More of that, please.

No, this is not one of the Oprah-esque lists where I tell you about A Few
Things I Love, which turn out to be $400 slippers and a box of 22k gold
toothpick...

Hey, I thought the sustainable food movement was just something a bunch of white yuppies who love $30 steaks and taking their double-wide strollers to farmers markets were into! What's Terry trying to do, mess with my tired and simplistic narrative?
Also: I think I went to that Anna Lappe talk with you.
